High quality cells are critical for cell-based
assays used in drug discovery and development. While there are many methods to
evaluate the presence of drug transporters, quantitation of functional activity
remains the gold-standard for certifying the quality in cell-based assays for
transport. Using the patented B-CLEAR® technology, Qualyst is
the only company that can provide quantitative data on the efflux transporters
in sandwich-cultured hepatocytes. Every B-CLEAR® hepatocyte
product has been optimized for transporter expression, location and function,
and is certified to guarantee functionality for multiple uptake and
efflux transporters. The certification process follows a multi-point evaluation
throughout the culture period and ends with a quantitative evaluation of uptake
and efflux transporter function. Hepatic uptake and efflux data are compared to
an extensive, species-specific, historical archive of data that provides a
well-defined range of acceptable performance.
