RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., U.S.A. (June 9, 2005)
Qualyst, Inc. announced today its financial contribution to the second annual Hepatocyte Research Association (HRA) meeting, to be held as an approved satellite meeting of the thirteenth North American meeting of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX) in Maui, Hawaii in October.
The HRA meeting will be held at the Wailea Marriott Resort, Maui, Hawaii, Saturday, October 22nd, 2005. The theme of the meeting will be current techniques and uses of primary hepatocytes, with a special focus on hepatic drug transport. Confirmed speakers and topics include:
Richard Kim, Vanderbilt University - “Pharmacogenetics of hepatic OATP and bile acid uptake transporters”
Kathy Giacomini, UCSF - “Genetic variation in the organic cation transporter, OCT1: implications for drug response”
Yuichi Sugiyama, University of Tokyo - “OATP-mediated hepatic transport of drugs; estimation of the contribution of each isoform and the analysis of transporter mediated drug-drug interaction”
Kim Brouwer, UNC-Chapel Hill - “Modulation of Hepatic Bile Acid Transport by Drugs with Hepatotoxic Potential”
Jasminder Sahi, Pfizer - “Utility of Hepatic Transporter Assays in Drug Development”
Hitoshi Endou, Kyorin University, Tokyo, Japan - (Title to be announced)
“We are delighted to contribute our time and resources to an organization that promotes dialog among scientists focused on an area of keen interest to Qualyst and the broader pharmaceutical research community,” said Ian Mehr, Qualyst VP of Business Development. “Our B-CLEAR™ assay utilizes primary hepatocytes in a sandwich-cultured configuration to accurately assess drug transporters and their contribution to hepatobiliary distribution and effects on drug efficacy and safety. It is exciting to see scientific leaders come together at the HRA to discuss recent discoveries and future directions in drug transport research.”
